New Magazine

Just got my summer issue today...and I LOVE it! You can visit the website to find retailers that sell the magazine as it doesn't yet offer subscriptions. There are a few online sellers listed on the website as well.

Cupcakes??? Yes, Please.

The Woodlands has a new cupcake shop.

The kind of bakery that I dream of owning every single day.

So, of course, we had to check it out.

Zachary gave his chocolate - vanilla "frost" an "Oh, my goodness! this looks soooo delicious!"

Lucas gave his a "This is soooo yummy, I think I'll smear it all over my face, hands and stomach so mom can clean up cupcake residue for the rest of the week."

I gave my turtle cupcake and my ganache topped chocolate dream cupcake

(Don't give me a hard time, folks. I cut them in 1/2 and saved the remainder for Josh!!! They may or may not still be there when he gets back home tomorrow.)

an "I wonder if the owner/baker would exchange an out-of-this-world cupcake recipe for a mediocre donut recipe?"

I won't hold my breath.

Ok, kids.....

I know you've enjoyed reading about my donuts for the last week and a 1/2 but we must move on.....

So yesterday was Mother's Day, of course, and like any day with these 2 characters, it was interesting.

I was greeted in the morning with a big "Happy Mother's Day" and 2 sweet cards. Lucas is very anti-kiss right now, and he told me a few days ago that for Mother's Day he would let me kiss him. At the last minute he changed his mind and only let me kiss him quickly on the cheek, but I'll take it. I told him I wasn't going to wash my lips for the rest of the day and I might not even brush my teeth.

Minutes later, I was bathing Lucas after he fell into the potty. "How appropriate that I'm doing this on Mother's Day morning," I thought. He likes to climb up on the potty to reach the sink when brushing his teeth. And in typical Lucas style, he didn't even look to make sure the lid was down before climbing up.

Zachary, of course, was scared to use the bathroom then because he thought it was still in the cleaning process, so he opted to pee in our toilet instead. Or should I say ON our toilet. Of course, I didn't realize this until later when I sat in it.

Zachary brought home the sweetest little Zinnia in a handpainted flower pot from school. I just loved it...so, so sweet! Immediately I got online and read how in the world to care for a Zinnia. "It's one of the easiest flowers to take care of, Mom. It's so, so easy!" Unfortunately, Zachary's mom has managed to kill every flower I have ever owned. And I am not kidding or exaggerating about that at all. I wonder if he would notice if I stuck some fake flowers in there..... I may be going to Hobby Lobby later today just in case an "emergency" comes up in the next few weeks.

Oh, the joys of Motherhood! Ahhh.....

It was a great day and, yes, very normal and typical...and that's what made it so special. :)

Homemade Doughnuts (aka You Too Can Have Hyper Kids)

I have wanted to make these for some time now and finally had a moment (actually...more like a few hours!!!) to do so tonight. They were really delicious and the glaze was fantastic. You can find the recipe here. Though the recipe poster says they are a Krispy Kreme copycat, I didn't think they tasted much like Krispy Kreme. However, they were really fantastic and even though I think I used every pot, pan and utensil in the house, I would certainly make these again. My kids loved these as well; and after eating more than I should have let them, they spent the evening bouncing off the walls...

I've been a little MIA lately! Trying to wrap up a few things for the PTO at my son's school before heading out to Brownsville, Texas on Thursday for the weekend. Then it's on to New Mexico for a girl's week with my step-mom and sister! I know I'll have lots of pictures to share when I return. On the road trip to the border tomorrow, I will be hand sewing a billion fabric "petals" onto a shirt that I converted into a jacket yesterday. I'll share pictures once I'm done. Cheers, everyone!
